Material models for the numerical determination of components subjected to multi-axial stress must be validated experimentally. This can be done with simple, standardized samples under combined tensile and torsional stress. It must be possible to apply the two load components to the sample synchronously or with any phase shift. The hydrostatic individual test cylinders EPZ-H and rotary drives EPZ-TH developed at FORM+TEST can be used to form a combined actuator. The universal testing machine UP-T 50-250 with actively clamped crosshead is used at the MPA Stuttgart for cyclic examinations up to 100 Hz testing technology on different materials and material composites.

If a component is subject to instationary loading during operation at high temperatures, the fatigue strength must be known in addition to the creep behavior. It must be determined in suitable tests under operating conditions. Therefore we use dynamic testing machines with suitable temperature control devices, such as the universal testing machine UP100-AK-2DH from FORM + TEST. In addition to the high-temperature furnace, the matching sample holders made of nickel-based alloys and high-temperature extensometer, the testing machine has an alignment device compensating for angular and axial misalignments in order to enable a perfectly standardized test. For high stressed hot-going components, it is of particular importance to consider cyclical loads. Different viscoplastic material models are needed for mathematical prediction of their lifetime. In order to determine the material parameters of those models, describing the material behaviour under operating conditions, appropriate experiments must be carried out at elevated temperatures and cyclic loading.
